Book Review: This Day in June by Gayle E. Pitman

A colorful celebration of love and accepting all people. Follow the joyful journey, in verse, through a special day in June. 

Pitman's colorful verse treats each page as its own mini story. Each page is a pride celebration in a different city or recognizes a distinct tradition within the parade. The rhymes are easy to follow and Litten's illustrations are a beautiful addition. All people are represented respectfully, including fashion, physical appearances, family dynamics, and displays in the parade. One of the book's best parts is the show of support from family members through presence and signs. At the back of the book, the author includes a reading guide where each page and phrase is explained in context giving more power to the pages and art. There is also a note to parents/guardians with recommendations for reading with different age groups and how this book can be used as a tool.
