Book Review: You Are Here: A Story of Connecting Flights edited by Ellen Oh

12 authors. 12 stories taking place in none other than the TSA line in a Chicago airport.

This book offers an amazing diverse collection of Asian American stories from a variety of distinct cultures. Even the characters depicted on the cover show a variety of skin color, gender, and interest. The stories feel real and give the reader something to relate to by using the airport as the backdrop. There is also the symbolism of the airport itself as a place where all types of people and cultures come together for a common purpose. Some stories are stronger than others. For example, in the first story about Paul. His story involves the handling of his grandfather's ashes in the TSA line and while there is a mention of Thai traditions and culture around the ashes they are not mentioned directly. There is also mention of him speaking in Thai, but no words are used in the story. On the other hand,

Many of the stories mention the racism and prejudice faced by the Asian communities

"The stories are imbued with a strong sense of authentic lived experiences as well as moments that will resonate with readers of other backgrounds, prompting an examination of their own interactions or unconscious biases; it welcomes non-Asian readers to learn and connect. This remarkable anthology offers a warm and heartfelt reassurance to all those who recognize themselves reflected in its pages: You are seen, and you do belong." -Kirkus Review
